I think it will be ok for a little while, you might want to consider getting a regular size as your child will outgrow the Dean. I have been playing guitar for years, my 11 year old is kind of a small kid but I buy him full size guitars. The main reason is- once you find a guitar you really like, and you become serious about playing, that instrument will be like a family member! I personally don't care for the Dean brand, I am not in any way talking you out of it, but my experience with them, I could NEVER keep them in tune. I bought my son a full size Rouge and it has a beautiful tone. Maybe we got lucky with it, maybe not? I had a Fender that could not touch this guitar! I have an Epiphone acoustic, but I usually find myself playing his! No matter what you chose, buy some quality strings to change from the factory ones. Tune it, and let the kid hammer on the guitar to stretch them out, tune again, and repeat a few more times until they stay in tune.I prefer Ernie Ball, Martin, or D'addario (in that order). Different players will tell you different strings are better/ worse, just find the ones that suits your child best, (I personally buy a lighter string for my son, they are a little easier on childrens fingers). Hope this helped some, good luck with your child's new hobby, music soothes even savage beast!
