I can get the exact same sound out of either a LP or an SG with minor amp adjustments and no effects. The biggest differences between the two are the Les Paul weighs more than the SG and does get a bit heavy if you are playing shows all the time. And the neck on the SG's are a bit tricky. I've nevr had a problem with one, but I know a lot of people who have. Basically, the SG is a more high maintenance guitar. It also is going to depend on the pickups you are running. When I said I can the the same sound out of either, it's because the humbuckers are either the same of very similar. Also, I only play with the bridge pickup anyway.Go to a guitar store and play them all. See which one feels and sounds better to whatever style of music you are into.
